Ruaha National Park Trip
This year, we organized a trip to Ruaha National Park with students from different classes. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about the biodiversity, different cultures and above all give these children a chance to explore their country’s wildlife.
We travelled from Singida to Iringa with a stop over in Dodoma then arrived in Ruaha National Park at night. Early morning next day, the tour guide took us to visit different spots of the park including the riverside where we saw a lot of Hippopotamus and Crocodiles. We took our time to observe different bird species, some of them are known to be migrants from within and outside Africa.
During the tour, we saw a lot of elephants. Ruaha park is believed to have high concentration of elephants than any National Park in East Africa. At Miombo woodland we spotted magnificent mammals like Kudu, Sable and Roan antelopes. We were lucky to see endangered wild dogs and other animals include lions, leopards, cheetah, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, bat eared foxes and Jackals. While walking in the park we saw semi-arid type of vegetations like baobab trees, Acacia and other species. The guide provided us with so much information, which certainly will be useful for both students and teacher’s future.
On our way back to Singida, we stopped at Kalenga Museum where we saw Mkwawa’s skull, historical buildings, the magic tree, the tombs and local weapons. From Kalenga we hit the road to Singida with a brief stop over at Dodoma city center and finally arrived in Singida at 21h.
It was great to see the students so excited and fully engaged in a range of varying and responsibilities outside their comfort zone, allowing them to develop and excel in skills such as team building and responsibility.
